New fundraising data shows that Beltway insiders who had been on the fence are flocking to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-N.Y.) presidential campaign as she has maintained her strong lead in the polls, performed well in debates and made few mistakes. Clinton raised $1 million from Washington, D.C. donors during the third quarter of 2007, far more than any other presidential candidate and about twice as much as her chief rival, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), according to data compiled by the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Clinton has seen her fundraising numbers in D.C. remain steady over the last few months, while Obama's have dropped precipitously, an indication that the inside-the-Beltway political community is gravitating toward Clinton. Overall, D.C. donors gave a third less to presidential candidates in the third quarter. Clinton's fundraising in D.C. has also mirrored her climb in the polls. "It's clear the money was tracking with Clinton's polls, giving credence to the notion that people were waiting for someone to take the lead," said Sheila Krumholz, executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan organization that monitors campaign fundraising. Krumholz said that Clinton raised 7 percent of her D.C. money in July, 20 percent in August, and 73 percent in September. "There are a huge number of donors who simply want to bet on the winner," she said. (1023 words in story) Full Story By Press, Section News

No more. Senator Dodd has decided to place a "hold" on the latest FISA bill that would have included retroactive immunity telecommunications companies that enabled the President's assault on the Constitution by providing personal information on their customers without judicial authorization. Follow the Money: Political Contributions Are Akin to Political Influence There is much dialogue and debate surrounding the Unconstitutional Missouri Law concerning unlimited campaign contributions. Former Missouri Legislature, and creator of the Missouri Ethics Commission, Doug Harpool has even gone so far as to condemn fellow Democrats who have accepted illegal $1,000 contributions from special interests. Although there is a lot of talk and posturing on this issue, local media outlets have thus far failed to report to their readers and viewers who exactly has taken this funny money. Friends of Rob Brantley have done a little research and discovered that: (702 words in story) Full Story By Press, Section Events

I have a very new phone number. People who had the number before must have been Repugs. This afternoon at 4:00 my phone rang. When I answered they said Congressman Roy Blunt was on the line with a conference call.. I listen to his prepared remarks then they took calls from all his district. When they would say Springfield I hoped it would be me. I was going to ask about the children's health he will vote against this week. I wanted to ask about Iraq also. I believe the questions were prepared. Everyone asked a different silly question One man from Clever said he thought the reasons people are losing their home was gas prices. He said that to make a living they have to drive long distances to their jobs. He mentioned he heard on the radio today that gas went to 87.00 a barrel. He mention the high profit the oil company was making. He said something to be done. Roy said they are working on it . In 20-25 years we would have a solution. The man wanted to ask another question but was cut off. (312 words in story) Full Story
