Miller, MO- Although it has been ignored by the local media, people are starting to take notice of the dirty tricks of the Ruzicka campaign. Push polls, misleading mail pieces, and radio ads full of lies have become the norm.

Example 1: A "poll" which asks questions like "Would you vote for Charles Dake if you knew he wanted to release all of the prisoners on death row," "Would you vote for Charles Dake if you knew he was for gay marriage?" and more was started in late July and is continuing to this day.

A legitimate poll takes 3-4 days to conduct. The only reason to keep a poll going for more than 2 months is to persuade voters. It is perfectly acceptable to call people and try to persuade them, but blatantly lying about a candidate's record in the guise of a poll is one of the most unethical forms campaigning, yet it continues to this day.

Ruzicka has been contacted by voters, reporters, and the Dake campaign to comment on the lies being spread in his name, and he has refused.

Example 2: Ruzicka mails a postcard to most people in Lawrence County, claiming that he wants to "hold teachers accountable." When confronted by teachers at a meeting in Mt. Vernon, he claimed that he did not authorize the mail piece. When pressed further on whether or not he agreed with the statement, and if he would stand up to both political parties to fully fund our public schools, he said "I'll have to look into it."

Example 3: In order to mask his inexperience with agriculture, Ruzicka's campaign aided in starting a rumor that owner of the Joplin Regional Stockyards, Jackie Moore, was supporting him because Dake had allegedly cost Moore over $500,000. We know that this is false, as Moore is one of Dake's biggest supporters.

Example 4: In an email exchange from August, Ruzicka was asked whether or not he supported the labeling of cow manure as a "toxic waste", as six states have done. His answer-"I will research this further." Never mind the devastating effects that this labeling would have on Lawrence County, the largest cattle county in the state, does labeling manure as toxic waste require that much thought?

This November, people have a choice between dirty campaign tricks and lies, or honesty, maturity and old-fashioned common sense. Between someone who "needs to research" whether or not manure is a toxic waste, and someone who knows agriculture better than most in the state. Most importantly people have a choice between someone focused on politics, and someone focused on people.
