The Veterans Alliance for Security and Democracy Political Action Committee (www.vetpac.org) will have two Board members and numerous supports in Fulton, MO today to help Duane Burghard and his campaign in the 9th Congressional District.

"We are here today as military members and veterans to support one of our own," said Lorin Walker, the group's Deputy Director, "The President may favor his opponent, but the troops support Duane." "Rep. Hushof has not given our military and our veterans the support that they deserve;" she continued, "he has received a "C" grade from the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (www.iava.org) for his votes on troop support and veterans issues. That is simply not good enough."

"Hushof is particularly bad on veterans' issues," Colonel Richard L. Klass, VETPAC Executive Director contended, "he has supported the Disabled Americans on only 28% of their key legislative issues. There are 194,000 homeless veterans in this nation, thousands sleeping on the streets of Missouri towns and cities, some veterans of the current conflict, and Mr. Hushof has done nothing about it. He has a constitutional duty to "raise and support an Army" and he has failed to support the troops and the vets."

Paul Bucha, Chairman of the VETPAC Advisory Board and a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, cited the lack of Congressional oversight of the war as another reason to support Duane Burghard "We need more veterans in Congress to question the deceptions and fanciful assumptions of this administration and to prevent another strategic blunder as has occurred in Iraq. Missouri is known for supporting independent representatives, not rubber stamps and Duane will follow this tradition."

Gen. Joseph Hoar, USMC (ret), a member of the VETPAC Advisory Board and former CENTOM Commander summed up simply, "Duane Burghard is a Truman Democrat; he will get to the truth and act on it."

About VETPAC

The Veterans' Alliance for Security and Democracy ("VETPAC") is a political action committee established under the federal election laws to raise funds and, with those funds, make contributions to candidates for federal office and engage in other election-related activities, including endorsing and promoting the election of specific candidates for public office and addressing issues of national importance. VETPAC seeks to address issues of particular urgency for protecting the security and enhancing the democratic processes of the United States. As an alliance of veterans working with veterans, and of veterans working in alliance with the American people, VETPAC will endorse and support candidates for national office that support VETPAC's principles of security and democracy.
