Follow the Money: Political Contributions Are Akin to Political Influence

There is much dialogue and debate surrounding the Unconstitutional Missouri Law concerning unlimited campaign contributions.

Former Missouri Legislature, and creator of the Missouri Ethics Commission, Doug Harpool has even gone so far as to condemn fellow Democrats who have accepted illegal $1,000 contributions from special interests.

Although there is a lot of talk and posturing on this issue, local media outlets have thus far failed to report to their readers and viewers who exactly has taken this funny money.

Friends of Rob Brantley have done a little research and discovered that:

Charlie Norr has already accepted and spent a $1,000 check from Safer Families for Missouri. Safer Families for Missouri is the same group that funneled almost a million dollars from Missouri Association Trial Attorneys into the 90th Legislative District Committee in 2004. This group has been described as a "shell corporation" for Missouri Trial Lawyers . Some call the contributions going from Missouri Association Trial Attorney's to Safer Families for Missouri to Charley Norr and other political candidates a form of "Legal Money Laundering".

Charlie Norr has already accepted and spent a $1,000 check from Supporters of Health Research & Treatments. Supporters of Health Research & Treatments is an organization that promotes embryonic stem-cell research and human cloning. This is the same group that threatened our 1st Amendment rights when it sued the Missouri Catholic Conference and tried to have their Section 501 (c) (3) organizational status challenged by trial attorneys.

Pastor Rick Scarborough described Supporters of Health Research & Treatments as being "engaged in a deception that would have made Adolph Hitler proud."

We are dealing with organizations and people who "legally" launder money and oppress those who speak out against them with law suits.

Charlie Norr has already accepted and spent a $1,000 check from the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. This organization might appear to be buying Norr's vote when it comes to some of their pet issues that have nothing to do with residents of the 137th Legislative District in Northwest Springfield. Projects like "maintaining sufficient capacity to fund additional Kansas City projects via the state Supplemental Downtown Fund" and support of their "Westport festival" through "legislation".

Even though their $1,000 contributions to Norr and others has a great affect on us in Northwest Springfield, most of the issues the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce deal with don't affect us at all... except maybe their opposition to "constitutional and statutory limitations on state and/or local taxes and restrictions on government spending including the Taxpayer Bill of Rights."

As if these 3 ethically challenged, if not flat out illegal, contributions weren't enough... This year alone Norr has accepted funds from (periods ending July 2007) the following organizations as well:

$325 AMECPAC Jefferson City, MO
$325 Sam Hamra Springfield, MO
$175 Electrical Workers St. Louis, MO
$325 Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Jefferson City, MO
$325 Charlie O'Reilly Nixa, MO
$325 Alliance for Higher Education Jefferson City, MO
$300 Home Builder's Industry St. Louis, MO
$150 AT&T Industry St. Louis, MO
$200 Missouri Beer Wholesalers St. Louis, MO
$325 MBA Ozark Region Jefferson City, MO
$325 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri Cincinnati, OH
$250 Northport Health Services Joplin, MO
$325 Missouri Dental PAK Jefferson City, MO

The money Norr has accepted (and reported the source as of July 16th, 2007) comes to $6,675. Which leaves just over $300 the Elect Charlie Norr Campaign has collected and deposited without disclosing who the money actually came from.

So where is political influence found? Apparently not in the 137th legislative District.

Springfield, for that matter, has less than 5% influence ( $6,674.00 / $325.00 ) on Norr's decision making process when it comes to funding his political campaigns.

Residents of the 137th Legislative District, his constituents, have contributed 0% to Norr's Political War Chest.
